Finland: Soldiers Participated in Mass Murders of Jews During World War II, Report Finds

A report released Friday by the National Archives of Finland found that Finnish soldiers participated in mass murders of Jews, foreign civilians, and Russian prisoners of war during World War II.

The report concluded that 1,408 Finns volunteered in the Nazis’ Fifth SS Panzer Division (Wiking), and participated in massacres in Ukraine and the Caucasus between 1941 and 1943.

It’s hard to determine how many Jews and other people were murdered with the participation of Finnish soldiers, the report said, but the figure probably totals around 10,000 people. The massacres took place in dozens of cities, including Hrymailiv, Ozerna, Skalat, Tarnopol, Zboriv, Zolochiv, and Krivichi, mostly in the summer of 1941.

The study was initiated following a request by Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, who has exposed hundreds of war criminals over the years. A year ago, Zuroff wrote to Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and asked that Finland carry out in-depth research on the subject in light of new findings about the involvement of Finnish soldiers in the murder of Ukrainian Jews.

Zuroff acknowledged that this would be a painful step for Finland, but argued that it is "the only way to courageously face the mistakes of the past and to prevent such crimes in the future."

A Finnish academic deleted numerous posts from his Facebook page on Wednesday, after a pro-Israel blogger publicized what he called their “outright Jew hatred,” The Algemeiner has learned.

Paavo Kinnunen, professor of biomedical engineering and computational science at Aalto University in Helsinki, removed the content a day after IsraellyCool published an entry containing numerous screenshots from Kinnunen’s page, which came to its attention when the professor posted the following message on the blog:

    Israel is the most fascist ‘nation’ in today’s world, racist, ultrareligious wackos leading it to oblivion. Hitler would be proud of seeing how his ideology was adopted by the zionists…[its] achievements … far exceed everything [Nazi doctor] Mengele succeeded in inventing as means to kill and torture.

The blogger then went to Kinnunen’s Facebook page and found “more of the same, including support of terrorism.”

There were multiple posts supporting and celebrating the violence perpetrated by Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel. There were dozens of anti-Israel posts, including, the blogger observed, “belief in blood libels and conspiracy theories.”

One post, for example, claimed that Sweden’s Jews have nothing to fear from Muslims but only from “Mossad jihadists” committing a terror attack and making it look as if it was done by Islamists. Another post suggested that the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States were organized by Jews, allegedly absent from the Twin Towers on that day.

Kinnunen’s posts frequently accused Israelis of harvesting the organs of Palestinians. In one, he charts the dollar amounts that different organs earn for Israel over images of what appear to be one or two dead Palestinians with long scars on their bodies; in another he posted a report called “Israel Caught Harvesting Palestinian Organs Again” below his comment, “Lucrative ziobusiness …”

Many posts equated Israel and Zionists with Nazis, and characterized Israelis and Jews as having a penchant for blood and violence. “When genocide is on the agenda,” Kunnunen wrote in one, “it is important to kill children … incl. toddlers, pregnant women …”

Others were what the blogger deemed openly antisemitic:

    Jews certainly are special, more special than any other group of people. They have established the most racist religion, involving lineage to their God, giving them the promise of land, slaves, property, license to kill all non-Jews. Following these religious items described in their Talmud, which we Goyims are banned from reading, these God chosen wackos have established, by treacherous deception, the most ultrafascist “society” in today’s world …

Similar claims about the Jewish Talmud occurred frequently, including that it makes “all property of non-Jewish belongs to Jewish,” and that it permits Jews “to kill all non-Jewish.”

Former President, Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Ahtisaari says that Europe must pay attention to the reasons of radicalisation more than it does. European countries must get work and education for youngsters. The Arab Spring did not actually start in Tunisia, but in the suburbs of Paris. Advancing the Middle East peace process is crucial as far as European security is concerned. The Syrian peace process would give people hope of returning home. The question of Israel and Palestine must also be solved. Ahtisaari says that youngsters have been radicalised in the Middle East partly because Palestinians have been treated badly.

A public demonstration by the Finnish Resistance Movement (Kansallinen Vastarinta), which describes itself as national socialist, ended in fighting on Saturday.

Local police say the extreme right group’s protest began peacefully and that approximately 40 people were in attendance. As the event proceeded, however, the protesters began to assault bystanders and aggressively prevent the police from performing their duty. Some of the aggressors continued their violent behaviour within the premises of the nearby Sokos department store.   more

Finland: Israel is Banned from Events Funded by the EU and the Red Cross

This is what happened in Helsinki, where the Jewish National Fund has been banned from participating to the Maailma Kylässä, the World Village, the festival organized by the multicultural organization Kepa, which includes three hundred different NGOs and is funded by the European Union and the Red Cross.

The Israelis first received an invitation to participate, only to find Israel being banned because of the “existence of question marks about the legitimacy of its activities”.

The Israeli embassy in Finland protested to the government of Helsinki about the ouster of the Jewish National Fund, only to be told that “it is a private event on which the Foreign Ministry has no authority”, when in fact the World Village is funded by the Finnish Foreign Ministry (17 million euro over two years), as well as by Brussels - the European Union. The Israeli ambassador in Helsinki, Dan Ashbel, said “that this approach is what led to the Holocaust”.

At the World Village of 2014, the Palestine Forum distributed - and was allowed to distribute - maps of the Middle East from which the Jewish State was absent. A year later, they have been able to erase Israel from the family of nations.
Doctor Goebbels would have been proud of them.

Finland: Finlayson ends co-operation with Kärkkäinen over "repulsive propaganda"

The Finnish textile company announced on Friday that it would no longer work with Kärkkäinen stores owing to shop's close relationship with freesheet Magneettimedia, which has been sharply criticised for publishing anti-semitic material and unfounded health claims.

Textile company Finlayson announced on Friday that it is ending its cooperation with Kärkkäinen stores. According to Finlayson, the decision was made for ethical and value-based reasons.

"The owners of Kärkkäinen shopping centres are behind Magneettimedia’s publications, which spread hateful and narrow-minded propaganda," said Finlayson’s chief executive and co-owner Jukka Kurttila. "The decision was not a financially easy one," he added.  Kurttila did not reveal the exact sum of money at stake, but said co-operation with Kärkkäinen had been in the range of "hundreds of thousands of euros."

Finlayson, founded in 1820, will no longer deliver its products such as sheets, duvet covers, bedspreads and pillows to Kärkkäinen. Kärkkäinen's main shops are in the Finnish cities of Oulu and Lahti. Finlayson home textile products already on Kärkkäinen shop shelves will not be removed, as this would not be possible for contractual reasons.

Recently a new complaint against Magneettimedia, which is predominantly distributed in Northern and Central Ostrobothnia and the Päijät-Häme region, was filed with Oulu police citing the publication’s ethnic agitation in the form of anti-semitism.  At the end of 2013, the online and freesheet publication was convicted of incitement of ethnic hatred in the form of anti-semiticism and then-editor-in-chief Juha Kärkkäinen was ordered to pay a fine of 45,000 euros. Kärkkäinen has applied for an appeal to the highest court to overturn the ruling. More.

Finland: Electoral posters of Jewish candidate defaced with swastikas

National Coalition MP Ben Zyskowicz deems the swastikas that appeared on electoral advertising in Helsinki  as an anti-Semitic outburst.

Ben Zyskowicz’s election advertisements had swastikas scrawled on them at a Kalliopuisto bus stop and at Pakilatie street.  The ad at Karhupuisto was personal. The one located on Pakilatie street was a poster with a Conservative Party co-candidate.  Zyskowicz is upset by the advertising vandalism.

"I think it is outrageous that the election advertisements were defaced, cut down and or torn. The elections are part of a democratic society. during elections, one should know how to respect other options and the right to campaign", Zyskowicz says.

Zyskowicz who is Jewish takes a really negative stance to the drawing of a swastika.

"The fact that the ads had swastikas drawn on them, I guess is an anti-Semitic outburst of an anti-Semite. It’s really cowardly to disrupt democracy".

Finland: Turku community says left-wing responsible for 75% of antisemitic harassment

Note that the Finnish left is attacking the Jewish community for the "Israel-US" alliance.  This isn't an issue of 'conflating' Jews/Israelis or Jews/Zionists.  It's 'Elders of Ziyon'-type antisemitism.

Tomer Huhtamaki, head of the Jewish Community of Turku, says that their main problem is left-wing antisemitism.

Islamic antisemitism is not even an issue, he says.  While in the 1990s the main problem was the right-wing skinheads, now it's the left-wing.  About a quarter of incidents come from the extreme right-wing, and the rest are from the extreme left-wing.  This includes vandalism and hostile messages, mostly related to the Middle east conflict and the Israel-US alliance.

Finland: JNF banned from World Village Festival in Helsinki

Just these days KEPA, the organizers of the annual World Village Festival in Helsinki, decided to ban a Jewish Zionist NGO – KKL – from participating in this year's festival. KKL or JNF was founded in 1901 in order to purchase land in the Land of Israel. The same organization is today involved in nature preservation, forestation and water management.  KKL is an accredited United Nation's NGO.

The main themes of this year's World Village Festival are Africa and the Middle East. The existence of the Jewish state in this region probably does not fit into the organizers' agenda. So KEPA, the organizing body of WVF funded by public Finnish money, chose to accept general unspecified allegations and accusations raised from those who deny Israel's right to exist, and simply decided to get rid of this nuisance.

I wonder which of KEPA's fundamental values: Sustainable development, Environmental protection, Fairness, Tolerance, Equality, Will for peace, Human rights and Democracy were served by this outrageous decision.  I would also be interested to know if all other exhibitors and partners of this festival were measured by the same scale.

"The Jewish Community of Helsinki is still welcome to apply to become an exhibitor at the festival and to propose factual program for the festival". KEPA's representative wrote and added "We see Judaism as part of Finnish culture, and even if it would not be, we would still welcome it to the Festival". Simply said, "we're not anti-Semitic, just anti-Zionists and anti-Israel". According to the working definition of anti-Semitism, it's exactly the same.

The article is a textbook example of how the journalists twist the truth to suit their agenda.

1. In the beginning, state the comfortable facts, omit the uncomfortable ones. Don’t go overboard yet. 

2. In the end, introduce the big lie. Don’t say it yourself, quote a local professional propagandist. Make him (or her in this case) look like a perfect representative of a persecuted minority (though she happens to be the mayor of Bethlehem and has Arafat and Abbas pictures hanging on the wall). 

3. Don’t introduce any background, let the readers believe the big lie. It’s the Jews’ fault. 

One of the central themes in the tawdry piece was insistence that the depletion of the Christian population in Bethlehem was solely due to Israel’s defensive security fence/wall (and other security measure) that snakes through the many areas of Bethlehem. Hey, they even got an Arab Lutheran pastor to state it, so it’s got to be true!

Esko Seppänen says that the Maritime Customs Barracks should not be sold to Jewish groups.

The former MEP Esko Seppänen criticizes the City of Helsinki’s decision to sell the old Maritime Customs Barracks to the cultural organization of the Chabad Lubavitch. In Seppänen’s view, the Orthodox Jewish organization could spy on Finland, being close to the Israeli secret service Mossad.

Finland: Convicted anti-Semite recipient of local media town medal for achievement

Tundra Tabloids: Juha Kärkkäinen was found guilty of spreading hatred for Jews in his store newsletter and on his online website. Regardless of where you fall on the free speech rights issue, this incident shouldn’t leave you with too much to mull over, the city shouldn’t have recognized this anti-Semite for anything. He lost his respectability once he took to demonizing Jews.

Finland: Magneetti Media site continues to propagate antisemitism

In October 2013 Juha Kärkkäinen, the owner of Magneetti Media, a free distribution newspaper and website, was fined for "inciting to hatred against an ethnic group" and ordered to remove antisemitic articles from his site.

As Algemeiner pointed out at the time, the antisemitic articles weren't removed immediately,

On the Magneetti Media website, on Tuesday, Kärkkäinen’s newspaper continued with his Jew hate. On the front page, Magneetti Media republished a story from June that tried to tie Israel to the U.S. government’s NSA snooping scandal. Another front page post in the video section of the homepage is a YouTube clip of Brother Nathaniel, a man with a thick, New York accent dressed as an orthodox Christian priest peddling the “Jews control the media” trope.

The articles that were on focus during the trial, screeds about rabbis, the Rothschild family tree, Jews controlling the media, and other anti-Semitic story lines that The Algemeiner reported on in July, were still posted online at the Magneetti Media website on Tuesday. 

In fact, they're still online. 

Now, five months later, I happened across this fascinating article on "understanding Antisemitism".  Posted a couple of weeks ago, it includes a YouTube clips which justifies antisemitism.

Needless to say, this article is just a drop of water in the sea of Jew and Israel hatred that is Magneetti Media.  Other recently posted articles bring David Duke's opinions on the "Secret Behind Communism" (hint: it's the Jews), and on why the West supports the Islamists in Syria and not Assad and his peaceful charity-group Hezbolla cohorts (hint: Jews again).

How to stump a leftist conspiracy theorist

Dr. Marko Maunula is a professor of American history at Clayton State University in Georgia.  Originally from Finland, he writes in the Finnish weekly Suomen Kuvalehti about American life.  He recently wrote several interesting articles about antisemitism.

In one recent column Maunula writes that he spoke to a leftist student of his about the Syrian civil war.  It's a plot by the Rothschilds, the student said, in order to gain control of the Syrian Central Bank.  The Jews also control the media, which is why we don't know the truth about what's happening, and they also control Hollywood, which puts up a smokescreen to obscure the truth.

Maunula responded with a question: what do you want to do about it?  If you think Jewish success is a problem, what should be done?  Should Jews be banned from working in the finance, media and entertainment industries?

The student, of course, did not have an answer.

Manula says he's had such discussions before with both American and Finnish leftists.  They always come back to the same themes: the Jewish-Western-banker conspiracy.

This shows the two aspects of Leftist paranoia:
1. Antisemitism - the Jews are responsible for all evil.
2. Lack of any real solution - the system doesn't work, but nobody says what should replace it.

Maunula told his student: either you punish success and ban Jews from the fields where you think they over-excel, or you learn from it and try to excel as well.

Finland: "My workmates .. asked me why I wanted to go and kill Palestinian children"

An article in Helsinki Times on Finnish Jews who serve in the IDF, manages to distort history, and bring the Finnish view of Israel - soldiers who kill Palestinian children for no reason.

I don't know which history books this journalist used to write her history of Israel and Palestine, but it has nothing to do with reality.  The UN approved a partition of Palestine into two states: Jewish and Arab.  Israel 'declared independence' in the Jewish state.  Every Arab country in the region then set to wipe this UN-approved country off the map.

The Second World War changed the Middle East. The genocide of six million Jews by Nazi Germany was an event that brought sympathy for the Jewish people all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of Jews sought refuge in the Holy Land. When Israel declared itself independent in 1948, there was little resistance, though it was known that this would mean that the Palestinians would be left without a country.
