Germany: Muslim and right-wing anti-Semitism on the German Internet

Via Arutz Sheva (Manfred Gerstenfeld):
Authorities have tried to keep statistical data and other information about anti-Semitic attitudes among Muslim immigrants and their descendants out of the limelight.

The Office for the Security of the German Federal State of Hessen has published a report on anti-Semitism on the German internet, authored by Ann-Christin Wegener. The study focuses on the manifestations and ideological background of anti-Semitic agitation on social networks in Germany.

Wegener wrote that the German authorities usually claim that 90% of anti-Semitic incidents are caused by the extreme right. She suggests that this results from the way the police report anti-Semitic incidents. As long as nothing is known about the motivation or the perpetrators, these incidents are labelled as right wing politically motivated.

Hate crimes committed in the Arabic or Turkish languages lead to less complaints than those in German. One has to also take into account the fact that many anti-Semitic incidents are not reported or do not result in complaints. It is estimated that less than a quarter of Jewish victims of anti-Semitism bring complaints to the police or to the Jewish community.

The author remarks that very little attention has been given to anti-Semitic crimes and attitudes of Muslims in Germany. She refers to some incidents which received much public attention. One of the most extreme was the severe beating of a rabbi in Berlin in 2012. Two years later anti-Israeli demonstrators shouted “Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas” in several German towns. Another incident which received much publicity took place in the Spring of 2017 when a Jewish boy quit his Berlin school after being severely harassed by Muslim pupils. Wegener writes: “All this says little about the quantitative comparison between anti-Semitism among Muslims and among the right.”

Muslim anti-Semitism in Europe has been greatly under-researched. Many authorities have tried to keep statistical data and other information about anti-Semitic attitudes among Muslim immigrants and their descendants out of the limelight. This has occurred despite the fact that all resolved murders of Jews in Western Europe in the past decade have been committed by Muslims. The same is largely true for other extreme anti-Semitic incidents. Among these are serious attacks on synagogues in France.

One classic example among many of hiding such information occurred in 2003. The Center for Research on Anti-Semitism at the Technical University of Berlin (CRA) completed its study on European anti-Semitism. It had been charged to prepare this report by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC). (This organization was replaced by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, FRA in 2007.) The CRA identified young Muslims of Arab descent as the main perpetrators of physical attacks against Jews and the desecration and destruction of synagogues. The EUMC did not publish the study. The CRA stated that the reason for not publishing the document was thar it exposed the many Muslim perpetrators of anti-Semitic incidents. They also mentioned that the EUMC had repeatedly asked them to change their findings. At the end of 2003, the World Jewish Congress published the CRA draft report on the Internet, thereby exposing the EUMC’s manipulation.

UK: EE network censors and blocks pro-Israel sites - no restriction on vicious anti-Israel sites

Edgar Davisdon writes:

I have discovered that the EE network in the UK is censoring pro-Israel websites and blogs, including my own. If you are using 3G or 4G on your mobile phone with the default settings and try to connect to such a website you get the Content Lock screen above warning that the site is not suitable for people under 18. Only by providing a credit card or changing your account settings can you get round this.

Just in case anybody thinks this has nothing to do with Israel or antisemitism please note the following:

While my pro-Israel blog is blocked, my 'twin alternative' Free Palestine Now  blog  - which has exactly the same owner and account -  is not blocked. Although it has managed to fool plenty of antisemites and anti-Israel fanatics (including, incidentally, many from the Palestine Solidarity Committee) Free Palestine Now is actually a satirical blog that pumps out ludicrous antisemitic conspiracy theories and Israel hatred in the spirit of 'real' anti-Israel websites. EE certainly do not know it is a spoof (they would censor it otherwise) - it is presumably classified as either 'pro-Palestine' or 'anti-Israel' which is OK in their eyes. I could find not a single anti-Israel site (no matter how inflammatory, including things like Electronic Intifada and all the sites dedicated to the boycott and demonisation of Israel) that was censored by EE.

Yet, other popular pro-Israel sites that are censored by EE include:

Israel: 51% of teens report facing anti-Semitic attacks online

The number of young Israelis attacked online for their nationality has risen sharply, a poll conducted by the Geocartographic Institute for the Anti-Defamation League shows. The poll questioned 500 Internet users aged 15 to 18.

More than half (51 percent) of respondents reported that they had been the targets of anti-Israeli attacks online in the past year, compared to 36 percent who said the same in 2013. Nearly two-thirds (61 percent) said that during and after Operation Protective Edge this summer, they experienced more anti-Semitic attacks than usual.

(...)

When it came to personal attacks against Israeli Internet users, 37 percent of those who said they had been vilified for being Israeli said they had been cursed at; 32 percent reported that their access to certain pages and sites had been blocked; 9 percent said they had been blocked from various forums, and another 9 percent reported that they had been threatened with physical violence. However, 30 percent said they had responded to their attackers, compared to 20 percent who said the same in 2013.

UK: “Jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew"

Balotelli apologized.

Liverpool’s Italian striker Mario Balotelli is under investigation by England’s Football Association for posting a photo to Instagram that many say smacks of racism and anti-Semitism.

Balotelli published a photo to the social media site of the Nintendo character Super Mario that read, among other things, “jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew.”

UK: Amnesty top official draws Israel, Islamic state comparison

Amnesty International has been accused of bringing its controversial report into last summer’s Gaza conflict into disrepute after a senior manager linked it with the actions of Islamic State on Twitter.

Kristyan Benedict, the group’s UK campaigns manager, tweeted a link to a story about the Amnesty report on IDF operations during the conflict, next to the hashtag #JSIL? (Jewish State in the Levant) –a commonly-understood play on one of the longer names of the Islamic terror group, which calls itself ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Amnesty's response?  Amnesty is not antisemitic.  Our people are, in a personal capacity.

Amnesty was quick to distance itself from Benedict, saying: ““This tweet was made in a personal capacity by a member of staff. Amnesty International has not used the hashtag #JSIL.”

Ireland: Fake tweets from Israeli Embassy taunt Irish

The Israeli Embassy in Ireland is battling a new threat these days – fake Tweets. Unknown perpetrators attempted to discredit the embassy by uploading a screenshot of fake Tweets to Reddit Ireland, purporting to come from the Israeli Embassy's official account, which taunted the Irish government and people.

A few weeks later, a popular Irish student website, oxygen.ie, mocked the scandal by putting up its own version of fake Israeli embassy Tweets, which were posted on the sattire section of the site.

The satirical Tweets were later spread across the internet and mistaken for official Tweets by the Israel Embassy in Ireland - prompting threats of legal action by the embassy against the student website.

Belgium: Anti-Semitic insult on Knack magazine Facebook page

Following a piece on Israel (see below) on the Facebook page of Belgian magazine Knack, known for its anti-Israel editorial line, a reader Johan Vercarre posted a message in Flemish: "Vuule joden!", meaning "Dirty Jews!".

Mr. Vercarre had indicated that he worked for Belgocontrol, "an autonomous public company in charge of the safety of air traffic in the civil airspace for which the Belgian State is responsible". It is partly controlled by the State and its employees shouldn't be allowed to post racial slurs.

Joods Actueel, a Jewish publication based in Antwerp, contacted Belgocontrol.  But the comment was not removed.  When Joods Actueel asked for an explanation, it was told that appropriate measures had been taken. A further exchange of emails ensued in which Belgocontrol complained that it was being unfairly vilified...

An email was then sent to Mr. Renaud Lorand, Belgocontrol's chairman (with a copy to the Belgian League Against Antisemitism). Mr Lorand reacted immediately and condemned the offending comment unreservedly. The comment was removed yesterday - it had been posted on September 23.

There is a lesson to be learnt.  Anti-Semitism in its crudest forms has become acceptable and accepted in Europe.

Austria: Man says anger at Israel was reason for "Jews should disappear" post

I posted about this story back when Kurz complained he was getting antisemitic abuse, but I think it's interesting to look at the attacker's defense: he was upset at Israel. And that is why he wrote that "Jews should disappear" and that "Hitler didn't do enough".  Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism, pure and simple.

A 25-year-old man from Lower Austria has been ordered to do community service after posting hate speech on Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz’s Facebook page.

The man, an industrial engineer, said that “in principle” he regretted posting anti-Semitic comments, but said in his defence that he had been “very upset” after Israel launched air strikes on Gaza.
Kurz received dozens of anti-Semitic posts on his personal Facebook page after he posted an appeal for peace in the Middle East in July. He then submitted screenshots from his Facebook page to the state prosecutor.
Lower Austrian prosecutor Thomas Ernst read out the following post in court: "Peace will exist only when the Jews completely disappear! In 1950 they did not have a place and now they are in Palestine and murdering people there to get more space! Hitler clearly didn’t do enough!"

In his defence the man said that he only meant that “Jews should disappear from the Gaza strip”. However the judge said that his reference to Hitler would suggest that this was indeed hate speech. “It was the wrong choice of words. I wrote them out of a sense of frustration,” the accused said.

UK: Man jailed for anti-Semitic tweet

Photo: Times of Israel

A 21-year-old man who sent a “grossly offensive” anti-Semitic message to Liverpool MP Luciana Berger has been jailed.

Ms Berger was said to be “deeply shocked” by the tweet, sent by Garron Helm of Thomson Road, Litherland, which showed a Holocaust-era star on the MP’s head with the hashtag ‘Hitler was right’.

(...)

The tweet then called the MP a “communist Jewess” and read: “You can always trust a Jew to show their true colours eventually.”

UK: UKIP MEP apologises over retweet to ‘vile’ anti-Semitic blog

A UKIP MEP apologised last night for retweeting a link to a virulently anti-Semitic blog after her party had initially mounted an extraordinary defence of the politician.
Jane Collins, who was elected this year to represent Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, posted a link to a page of an extremist blog attacking Labour’s deputy leader Harriett Harman over allegations an organisation she once worked for had links to paedophile rights campaigners. The opening sentence referred to the politician as a “Jewess” – which she is not.

UK: Labor Party candidate says Hitler was "Zionist God"

LABOUR ditched one of its parliamentary candidates yesterday after she branded Israel “evil” and suggested the Islamist terrorist group Isis should attack the country.

Vicki Kirby, Labour’s candidate in Woking, posted anti-Israeli comments on her Twitter feed, claiming Hitler might be the “Zionist God”.

The party severely reprimanded two other candidates after one posted sexist and homophobic comments on a Twitter account and the other compared the Tories to Nazis.

One post on Kirby’s Twitter account read: “We invented Israel when saving them from Hitler, who now seems to be their teacher.” Another read: “I will never forget and I will make sure my kids teach their children how evil Israel is!”

Sweden: Politician sees nothing wrong with David Duke clip blaming Jews for all wrongs in society

Swedish antisemitism watchdog Judehatet point out that this is not the first time Jadarian links to antisemitic conspiracy theories.

In the clip she posted, and with Jadarian sees no problem, Duke accuses Jews of being responsible for killing Palestinians, abortion, divorce, crime, sexually transmitted diseases, drugs, 9/11, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the porn industry.

Jadarian points out that the world is upset about Muslims killing
Christians (and hints that nothing is done about the Jewish threat to Christians)
A Swedish politician who posted a video by a former Ku Klux Klan leader on her Facebook page has defended her actions, saying she is not racist.
Dayana Jadarian posted the video to her social media account, along with the message: 'What he says is facts (sic) and everyone knows it but many want to suppress it.'

In the video, David Duke, a well-known white supremacist and anti-Semite, speaks about how Jews control the American media.

However, she has now deleted that message and claims she was unaware that Duke was a former Klan Grand Wizard when she posted the clip, entitled 'The Insanity of Christian Zionism'.
And she later added: 'It turned out that Duke was branded by some media as a racist. I had no information about that. Now, in the actual clip, there was nothing that was racist.

Sweden: Right-wing party candidate says "Jews can only live as parasites"

Ibb Malmgren, a candidate of right-wing Sweden Democrats party in Höör, was a member of the White Power forum 'Nordisk' in recent years, where he posted various antisemitic posts.  In 2008, for example, he explained that "Jews can only live as parasites".  Though Malmgren admitted he was a member of the forum, he says his account has been hacked in order to make the Sweden Democrats look bad, and that he did not post the antisemitic posts.

Though Expo says they have investigated the issue in 2010, his party says they did not ban him then because they have found no proof that he wrote the posts.  They will now look into the issue again.

Ireland: Gaelic footballer urges followers to "punch a Jew"

A GAA star is facing a criminal investigation after sending a Tweet urging people to "punch a Jew".
Former Tyrone player Tommy McGuigan has apologised for the Tweet, but the PSNI has confirmed it is investigating the comment as a potential hate crime.
The All-Ireland winner had tweeted: "If you are lucky enough to know or work with a Jew, punch him right on the nose tomorrow."
(...)
"I apologise for any offence caused," said the 29-year-old. He said he had been watching news coverage of the death and destruction in Gaza when he sent the Tweet.

Germany: Online comments celebrate 'Jewish' Robin Williams' suicide

An article on the Die Zeit site about Robin Williams' death resulted in many antisemitic comments.  These included: "You virtual Jew you. Now I'm in a festive mood, because this pro-Jewish, American cockroach died", "it's horrible what's happening in Hollywood. Everybody's Jewish, everybody's a pedophile. Why do you think this suicidal loser succeeded, because they're child-killer pedophiles."

Another suggested bombing the funeral, to kill off as many Jews as possible.

Tuvia Tenenbom, a columnist in Die Zeit, said that the newspaper is intellectual, liberal and leftist-leaning and that comments such as these show the hidden antisemitism within this public.

Williams, who was not Jewish, played several Jewish roles and is considered 'pro-Jewish'.

Netherlands: Senior Justice Ministry employee says ISIS a Zionist conspiracy

The employee was suspended.

A senior employee of the Dutch Justice Ministry said the jihadist group ISIS was created by Zionists seeking to give Islam a bad reputation.
Yasmina Haifi, a project leader at the ministry’s National Cyber Security Center, made the assertion Wednesday on Twitter, the De Telegraaf daily reported.
“ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. It’s part of a plan by Zionists who are deliberately trying to blacken Islam’s name,” wrote Haifi, who described herself on the social network LinkedIn as an activist for the Dutch Labor Party, or PvdA.
Haifi later removed her original message, explaining, “I realize the political sensitivity in connection with my work. That was not my intention.”

Belgium: Politician understands why Hitler wanted to exterminate Jews (but apologizes later)

The Belgian League Against Anti-Semitism, or LBCA, and the Flemish Forum of Jewish Organizations announced their intention to file a complaint for incitement to hatred against Assan Aarab of the Christian Democratic and Flemish party, or CD&V, on Thursday.
Aarab, a baker from the Antwerp suburb of Deurne who ran on the party’s ticket during the May municipal elections, wrote on Facebook earlier this week: “I think the Germans deliberately didn’t kill all the Jews so that we will be able to understand now why [Adolf Hitler] was destroying them.”
Initially, Aarab defended his statement, saying it was “provocative” and intended as an expression of anger of Israel’s actions in Gaza, not as incitement to hate. But he apologized after the leader of the Antwerp chapter of his party, Ariane Van Dooren, condemned him.
