Moscow - After years of being accused of antisemitism and nationalism by his opponents, without proof, Alexey Navalny, one of Vladimir Putin's main rivals and the person regarded as Leader of the Opposition in Russia, yesterday (Thursday) published an antisemitic statement on his main Facebook page.
Navalny is currently in the midst of organizing a protest demonstration by the various opposition movements which is due to take place on 1st March. The organizers of "the Spring March, which is expected to take place in several major cities in Russia, are calling for Putin to be ousted due to the economic crisis in the State, and hope to succeed in recruiting the same number of demonstrators who protested against Putin's election in 2012.
On Navalny's main Facebook page yesterday it was posted that "We have decided that without slogans the march would be too boring. We are not ashamed of our fantasy and have therefore found several versions. We ask for your help in finding similar slogans in response". The post then went on to list the slogans to be yelled out by the demonstrators during their march through the streets, such as "The prices of oil shall fall a little more/ Spring has arrived make way for the Spring", "We shall break Putin's leg/Spring has arrived/make way for Spring", as well as criticism of the Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev: "Medvedev is going to the synagogue/Spring has arrived, make way for Spring".
