The Hague University of Applied Sciences cancelled a field-trip to the Palestinian consulate, after Jewish organizations complained. The trip was scheduled for May 4th, the Dutch Memorial Day. Originally set to commemorate Holocaust and WWII victims, it now serves as general memorial day for victims of other military conflicts as well.
According to one student, they did not realize the date was so sensitive. They did not think of it as a Holocaust memorial day, and it was chosen for practical reasons.
However author Joost Niemöller says they couldn't have possibly known May 4th is not considered a memorial day for Holocaust victims and that this is a slap in the face of those victims.
