US historian Deborah Lipstadt's prediction as to how this will evolve:
David Irving is advertising his trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Here's my prediction as to how this will evolve:
1. He announces trip (already has).
2. Gets a media buzz (already has).
3. Social media picks it up (in process).
4. Museum at Auschwitz Birkenau announces he is not welcome to come.
5. Irving portrays himself as the victim of censorship.
6. He goes anyway with a few loyal stalwarts.
7. He makes sure to announce the date and time of his arrival at the camps.
8. Media awaits him. Auschwitz Museum officials tell him he can't come in.
9. In full view of the media he proclaims himself the victim.
10. He gets invitations to speak at universities about the need for
free speech and removal of censorship (this from a man who offered to
settle with me if I trashed and pulped all the extant copies of my
book... I didn't... he went to court... he lost). NOTE: He's already
been to the Oxford Union to speak on the topic so they probably won't
invite him back. But there are lots of other venues for him.
