Hungary: Mayor claims it's "highly probable" the Israel is behind Paris attacks

Via Budapest Business Journal:
The Israeli Embassy in Budapest issued strong condemnation of Szentgotthárd Mayor Gábor Huszárʼs claim yesterday that “it is highly probable that the Jewish State” was behind the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.

(...)

Huszárʼs comments were recorded during a meeting in which municipal officials voted against building more permanent facilities to house refugees in Szentgotthárd, which borders on Austria. An excerpt of the recording features Huszár saying: “Everyone please accept this statement from me that the happenings in Paris provide clear evidence that in certain business circles – and here I say it – it is highly probable that the Jewish State is operating in the background, and they want Christian Europe to turn against Islam.

Belgium: Jews hide their identity, consider new exodus

Via The Telegraph:
Mrs Dan, in common with others who spoke to the Telegraph, describes her now reflexive habits to avoid attention on the streets, including reluctantly covering her Star of David necklace.

Some families have removed the mezuzah, the box of parchment Hebrew verses affixed to the entrance of Jewish homes, from their front doors to avoid attention.

“I never thought I would have to hide a Jewish newspaper on the metro," said Mrs Dan. "When my grandson comes out of the school, he knows to put his kippah in his pocket. He asks me, why do they hate us? I say, oh, it’s a long story.”

Rabbi Avi Tawil, the director of the European Jewish Community Centre, recalls how, shortly after moving to Brussels 10 years ago, an admiring stranger asked the age of his baby son in his pram. “Allah willing, he will be dead soon,” the man remarked.

He reveals he is regularly sworn at and threatened when walking with his four children, and he has withdrawn his daughters from a swimming club following a threat to kidnap them.

“I grew up in Argentina and experienced some anti-Semitism, but compared to what my children go through in Europe in 2015, it is incomparable,” he said, speaking from his office in an unmarked building near the European Council’s headquarters, guarded since the Charlie Hebdo massacre by Belgian infantrymen.

He stresses his intense dislike of stereotypes, and praises the efforts of Muslim leaders to work with synagogues and isolate the extremists that are ruining their communities.

But he adds: “If I count my own experience, the insults and violent actions seem to come from people who curse me with Allahu Akhbar, or some Arabic insult.”

Many families, he says, are finding an instinct for "survival" trumps their idealistic hope that community relations will improve.

“We see people are targeted for being Jewish in the streets all the time," he said. "It is a war of ideas."

Germany: Pegida claims Angela Merkel is Jewish and trying to “ruin” Germany

Via Everyday Antisemitism:
The North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) branch of the German movement Pegida (Patrioten gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes/Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) recently conducted a discussion on its Facebook page ‘confirming’ that Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, is Jewish.

The discussion was initiated by a user who asked, “How can we prove that Merkel is a Jew? How do we proceed???”, going on to demand that Merkel and “her whole crew” be arrested, for reasons unstated. The user went on to state that she intended to search the internet for Merkel’s birth certificate, in order to obtain the “next piece of evidence” of Merkel’s Jewishness.

Pegida NRW responded to the comment by stating, “Maybe you are hearing this news for the first time. But the majority of the population is already aware that Merkel had Jewish parents and that this woman’s parents weren’t quite right in the head.”

Germany: Top Nazi son is pessimistic about the future of Jews in Europe

More about this subject:
- Niklas Frank is Hitler's godson, and his father Hans was a top Nazi who endorsed the Final Solution - a fact he has struggled with all his life
- What’s it like to have a Nazi for a father?
Hans Frank, Governor-General of Nazi-occupied Poland, implemented the extermination
of Jews with such ruthlessness that he became known as the Butcher of Poland.
Stephen Applebaum writes in the Jewish Chronicle:
I had a wonderful childhood till 1945," says Niklas Frank, describing a life that sounds almost magical. He warmly recalls playing hide-and-seek among the "wonderful monuments" to ancient kings and queens in the cathedral of Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland, where his family resided for half of the year, and visiting nearby parks with his beloved nanny Hilde. The family had the run of another castle at weekends, and would often return to their house by a lake in Upper Bavaria, where they'd fish, swim and ski.

Wawel Castle, though, was Niklas's father Hans's "kingdom". His mother, Brigitte, called herself Queen of Poland. The Franks weren't royalty, however, but a family in the top echelon of the Third Reich. In 1939, the year Niklas was born, Hitler had made his lawyer father Governor-General of Nazi-occupied Poland, a role that saw him implement the Final Solution with such ruthlessness, that he became known as the Butcher of Poland.

Hans was arrested in May 1945, four days before the end of the war, and put on trial at Nuremberg. Niklas had been protected from the truth about him; bloody reality now poured in. "When I saw the first pictures of corpses in newspapers in 1945, with the word Poland underneath, I knew there was a connection," he says. "My father was detained, so I knew he was responsible for these corpses."

Hans was found guilty of mass murder and hanged. Today, Niklas carries around the last ever photograph of his father, taken post mortem, as a reminder of his criminality. He once described him as a "typical German monster", but now corrects himself. "Monster was the wrong word. He was very educated, he knew by heart and brain what he was doing. Monster is an excuse. A monster is not responsible." What did he mean by "typical German"? "A typical German always follows orders," says Frank, sneeringly. "If you are ordered to kill someone, you say: 'It's orders, I have to fulfil this task.' They forget their humanity and follow the order, not thinking that this is a crime." [...]

This fury exploded onto the page in a controversial 1987 memoir, The Father: A Settling of Accounts (published in English as In the Shadow of the Reich). A bitter J'accuse, the book shocked readers with its vituperative language and shattering honesty. Niklas had found none of the latter in his father, although he did find some in his mother. [...]

Hannah Arendt talked about the "banality of evil" while covering the Eichmann trial, but Niklas thinks this is too simple. "For me, it's not a very clever sentence," he says. "Even the worst atheist has the Ten Commandments in their brain. It's our humanity. So there is nothing banal about this period in Germany. Everyone knew [what was happening] and they [still] decided to go with it. I can't forgive this."

Antisemitism is on the rise again and he is worried about what might happen were a charismatic Far Right figure like Heinz-Christian Strache in Austria to appear in Germany. "We committed the worst crimes that were ever committed around the world, so we should know better. But do we? I'm really afraid about what's going on. Still, our economy is good. But if our economy breaks, not just for one year, let's say five years, they will hunt [people] down again. Maybe the Jews, or whoever we make responsible." [...]
He wrote The Father to break the oppressive silence in Germany about what the previous generation did in the war, and to show that "you have to be tough and you have to ask your parents". He now takes every opportunity offered to him to speak in schools about his father, and to warn about what can happen when civil society breaks down, in the hope of helping to prevent it happening again. "We experienced that if you don't have any civil courage, starting with the little things, it leads to building up extermination camps," he says, passionately.

"I am a chauvinist when it comes to German crimes. I don't want to compare with the behaviour of other people. Everybody knows how right-wing France is. Everybody knows about the Italian fascists. Everything is connected, especially in the European Union, and you have to be careful."

UK: Dominant antisemitic themes: calling Jews Nazis and child killers

Via CST:
EXPLICIT antisemitism against Jews per se, simply for their being Jewish, remains rare in British public life and within mainstream political media discourse.
In 2014, CST received an unprecedented number of reports of antisemitic incidents. This was due to levels of antisemitism during the relatively lengthy conflict in July and August, between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and southern Israel.

Levels of antisemitic discourse are far harder to consistently observe and measure, than quantitative antisemitic incidents and hate crimes. Nevertheless, many people contacted CST (and other Jewish organisations), expressing their feelings that the conflict was creating a climate of unusually heightened antipathy and hostility to British Jews. Numerous newspaper columnists and other public commentators voiced the same concerns, stating that the public mood against Jews had never before felt as it did.

This was the first conflict involving Israel at a time when social media is all pervading, more so (especially Twitter) than during the last major conflict between Israel and Hamas in 2009. This resulted in a quicker spread of antisemitic discourse, threats and themes than previously seen during any such conflict: visible to witnesses, perpetrators and victims. For example, the hashtag #Hitlerwasright trended on Twitter, was portrayed on placards and was shouted in verbal abuse against Jews.

In Britain, the use of Nazism to attack Israel, Zionists and Jews was the dominant antisemitic theme during the conflict, in both discourse and incidents reported to CST. Calling British Jews child or baby killers was the second most common theme in antisemitic incidents. It is impossible to prove what role - if any - this old antisemitic theme of Jews as child killers played in mainstream media coverage of the conflict, or in widespread political activism during it.

France: "Muslims are humiliated by Jerusalem in Jewish hands"

Via Israel Hayom:

An Israeli journalist interviewed a resident of Saint Denis, Muhammad Mahdud, who told him:

"Muslims can't accept the humiliation of the Palestinian people.  There are more than a billion Muslims in the world, and if there's one thing that unifies all of us, it's Al-Quds.  As long as Al-Quds is not returned to Muslim hands, as it always was, Muslims will feel humiliated.  Besides, Israel is an invention of the West.  Before Israel existed there were no problems between Muslims, Christians and Jews".

"The founding of the State of Israel caused an historical distortion in the entire Middle East.  When you want to solve a problem you need to go to the source.  Returning Al-Quds to the Muslim world will already be the beginning of returning world order."

UK: Guardian concerned about number of Jew-killers being killed in Israel

This is not responsible reporting.  It's not even reporting.

We're way past the "moral equivalency" stage.  Let's call it for what it is: The Guardian is inciting to kill Jews.  It is manufacturing a story of genocide.

Via UK Media Watch:
So, not only did Guardian editors lead with the death of the terrorists in the headline, they added a strap line which focused on the number of Palestinians killed in “the latest wave of violence”.

Of course, the “wave of violence” they’re referring to is a string of 119 Palestinian attacks on Israelis since Oct. 1.  Of the 99 Palestinians killed during this time, most (as the article itself ultimately acknowledges) have been the “alleged perpetrators of stabbing, shooting and car ramming attacks”. Almost all the other Palestinians “killed during this time” were killed during violent, Palestinian-led clashes.

The article referred to the Council of State as “a rabbinical court” and stated that French people were living under “full Jewish tyranny”

Germany: BDS activists inspecting Israeli products for boycott

You will have understood that in the European union the word is out:  "Thou shalt not boycott Saudi Arabia and Qatar", but "though shalt boycott Israel".  On the bright side, there are signs that the younger European generation is less cynical than the post-war generation and also less inclined to demonize Israel and the Jews.

Thanks to EU product labels: Today Germans in Bremen are inspecting Israeli products for boycott. In Berlin BDS protest at department store.

The Jerusalem Post reports:

Elderly German women
in anti-Israel boycott
A group of anti-Israel activists in the northern German city of Bremen on Saturday visited stores to ensure they marked their products as originating from Israeli settlements.

The Boycott, Sanctions, Divestment (BDS) group stated in a press release: “With an ‘inspection tour’ on November 28 we want to examine which businesses are selling ‘products from Israel’ and to call upon them to comply with the EU labeling obligation.”

German journalist Jan-Philipp Hein reported on the BDS group in stores on his twitter feed, posting photographs of the activists wearing signs on their backs, reading, “Inspection: Labeling obligation for products from the illegal Israeli settlements.”

A separate BDS protest on Saturday occurred in Berlin in front of the GALERIA Kaufhof department store on Alexander square.  A photo can be seen of the activists holding a large BDS poster. GALERIA Kaufhof rejects product labels.

A spokesperson said the chain’s policy is not to be influenced by religion or politics when purchasing products. GALERIA Kaufhof sells products made in the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

The EU issued guidelines in November stating that Israeli settlement products should not be labeled as made in Israel. EU member states and businesses have the latitude to decide whether they wish to identify products from the disputed territories.

The protests in Berlin and Bremen come on the heels of the high-end Berlin department store KaDeWe’s removal last week of eight Israeli wines produced in the Golan Heights.

Following a great deal of criticism on social media and a protest from the Green Party’s Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Bundestag, a spokesman for the department store sent him a letter of apology. “The eight Israeli wines will be immediately returned,” the letter read.

“On this issue, dealt with following recommendations of the European Commission, we acted too fast and without sensitivity. We are sorry that the mistaken action of the KaDeWe Group lead to misunderstandings, and we want to apologize for that.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had slammed the department store, telling the cabinet that the German government should take action against the move.  Pointing out that this department store was originally owned by Jews and confiscated by the Nazis, Netanyahu said that what began with the labeling of products has evolved into a full-blown boycott of those products.

“We strongly protest this step, which is morally, substantively and historically unacceptable” Netanyahu said. “We expect the German government, which came out against product labeling, to act on this grave matter.”

France: TIME columnist says it's 'relatively simple' to explain why Jews are murdered

Via Elder of Ziyon:
Vivienne Walt, a Time magazine writer, has written how difficult it is to explain the Paris terror attacks to her child.

She writes:
In January it had been relatively simple to explain to my child, who was then eight, why the cartoonists had been the target, and why a Jewish supermarket was attacked—grim as the details were. ....Answering questions over dinner on Sunday was more difficult, however. The targets this time were young people having fun on a warm Friday night; people, in fact, who were his age not all that long ago.

Really? It is easier to explain why terrorists would murder Jews than to explain why they would murder other Parisians?

I wonder how Ms. Walt explained the January attacks in a way that her son would understand. Are Jews considered natural targets in the Walt household? Or is it because of their presumed association with that shitty little country that happens to be the Jewish state? I would love to know what makes shooting Jewish shoppers relatively normal to Vivienne Walt.

Yoav Hattab, murdered at Hypercache, was 21, and Yohan Cohen was 22. They were pretty young. In fact, they were younger than nearly every victim of the more recent Paris attacks. But apparently that didn't make it more difficult to explain their murders to Vivienne's 8 year old son. Shopping for food is probably as familiar an experience to her son as sitting in a cafe or going to a concert, but clearly that didn't make the job of explaining those murders any more difficult.

Somehow, their being Jewish made it all understandable.

So what exactly did she say so that her son would be secure in the knowledge that only attacking Jews (and cartoonists) is not something he needs to empathize with or worry about?

Grappling to find the logic in this, my son pondered the situation, and asked, “Well, why did they attack those restaurants and not other restaurants?”
It was a good question, hitting at the most terrifying aspect of all—the randomness of the attacks. Friday’s attacks impacted so many regular Parisians because they had been aimed directly at the most normal of people — the drinkers, the concert-goers, the soccer fans.

Implying, again, that the Jews going shopping are not exactly "the most normal of people," and in a small way their murders are more logical than those of the drinkers and soccer fans.

France: Young Muslims say ISIS is a Jewish organization and that Jews are terrorists

A young Muslim living in France and relaxing in a café tells Ezra Levant, in broken French, that the Islamic State is a Jewish orgaization and his mates agree.

Watch the video:

What makes the situation so "interesting" is that a poll revealed that 16% of French citizens support ISIS as reported by Newsweek:
One in six French citizens sympathises with the Islamist militant group ISIS, also known as Islamic State, a poll released this week found. The poll of European attitudes towards the group, carried out by ICM for Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya, revealed that 16% of French citizens have a positive opinion of ISIS. This percentage increases among younger respondents, spiking at 27% for those aged 18-24.
Ezra Levant reports from Paris after the Muslim terrorist attacks @ The Rebel:
Parisians have accepted Muslim terrorism as the new normal

I arrived in Paris this morning, and spent the day on the streets trying to get a read on this bleeding city.
I immediately went to Bataclan, the concert hall where 87 people were murdered by Muslim terrorists on Friday night.

France’s president, Francois Hollande, called the attacks an “act of war” and said in response he will “lead a war that is pitiless”.

I’m sorry, but I don’t believe him — and if my observations today were any indication, no-one else does either.  If my first impressions of Paris are accurate, Hollande doesn’t mean it, and neither do most Parisians. In fact, the opposite has happened: France has developed a tolerance for terrorism. They accept terrorist violence as the new normal. They’re numb to it now.

It is worryingly common to hear antisemitic conspiracy theorists claim that ISIS is funded by the Rothschild Jewish banking family, a shorthand reference to nefarious Jewish financial influence.

France: Mastermind of Paris terror onslaught planned to hit Jewish targets

Via Jerusalem Post:
The ringleader behind the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris had plans to strike Jewish targets and to disrupt schools and the transport system in France, according to sources close to the investigation.

Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a Belgian national of Moroccan origin, also boasted of the ease with which he had re-entered Europe from Syria via Greece two months earlier, exploiting the confusion of the migrant crisis and the continent's passport-free Schengen system, the sources said on Friday.

Their comments, confirming excerpts from a confidential police witness statement leaked to a French magazine this week, fleshed out a picture of the Islamic State militant who spearheaded the Nov. 13 attacks targeting cafes, a concert hall and sports stadium in Paris in which 130 people were killed.

The witness statement, quoted in the Valeurs Actuelles weekly magazine, describes how Abaaoud approached his cousin Hasna Ait Boulahcen two days after the killing spree asking her to hide him while he prepared further attacks.

Both Abaaoud and Boulahecen died on Nov. 18 in a shootout with police in St. Denis north of Paris at an apartment where the militant Islamist had been staying.

Speaking of the planned future attacks, Abaaoud told his cousin on Nov. 15 that "they would do worse (damage) in districts close to the Jews and would disrupt transport and schools", the witness statement said.

Belgium: BDS Gives Belgian-Jewish actress new lease on life in Tel Aviv

Obviously this is not reported in Belgium, where the BDS movement is very strong, not even by the Belgian Jewish media.

The Algemeiner reports:

In an interview with the Israeli site nrg on Wednesday, Belgian-Jewish stage actress Noemi Schlosser recounted immigrating to Israel after her career in Europe was destroyed by BDS.

Schlosser said she had enjoyed success in Belgium and international acclaim until she was targeted by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement for her pro-Israel stance during Operation Protective Edge — last summer’s war against Hamas in Gaza. She described watching the theaters where she performed go from packed to nearly empty over a short period of time.

This, she said, spurred her to pack up and move to Israel, which has taken her career on a new and unexpected path. For example, she said, her months of experiencing life in Israel as an immigrant and a single woman led her to create “Date Me in TLV,” a show which premiered yesterday (Nov. 25) in Israeli theaters.

UK: Criticism of Celtic director leads to antisemitic abuse

Via The National (h/t CFCA):
The row between Celtic’s board and some organisations representing the club’s fans took a dramatic new twist when director Ian Livingston released details of anti-Semitic abuse he suffered online.

Fans organisations had called for Lord Livingston to step down from the board after he voted for the Conservative government’s tax credit cuts in the House of Lords. When Celtic chairman Ian Bankier attacked the “criminally racist” slurs on Livingston, the organisations called for him to consider his position, too.

Yesterday, Livingston posted on a fans’ website, revealing details of the abuse and defending his action in the Lords. He wrote: “I hope you don’t mind me posting this. Livingston added: “Many others were simply abusive, not, I assume, anything to do with my religion but rather because I had a different political view.

Germany: Teacher fined for painting over swastikas near a primary school

Via the Independent:
A German teacher has been fined €1,000 for painting over swastikas sprayed onto signs near the primary school where he taught.

Ralf Bender, who teaches in the small town of Limburg in Hesse, has lost a case against the local council after he painted over a number of swastikas sprayed onto signposts near the school in 2013 when authorities failed to act despite being informed of the offensive symbols. He told local newspaper he took action because he wanted to remove the offensive signs before pupils returned to the school.

On Tuesday the town upheld a decision to make Mr Bender pay cost of €1,000 cleaning costs, the Local reports.

But the teacher, who said the town’s actions were a “joke” and the symbols a mockery of the Nazi’s victims, has promised to take his case to Germany’s highest court and refused to pay the fine.

“I stand in front of children every day. It is my job to set an example to them,” he told German newspaper Süddeustche Zeitung.

While many have expressed support for this actions, the teacher also claims people have threatened him and forced him to take security measures at home.

Europe’s leaders, often busy criticizing Israeli anti-terror techniques, should learn about those very techniques

Daniel Schwammenthal, the director of the AJC Transatlantic Institute, writes @ Politico.eu
The now four-day long Brussels lockdown in response to fears of imminent, multiple terror attacks is both reassuring and disturbing. Reassuring because finally, after previous governments preferred denial, the authorities are taking the enemies of free society seriously. [...]

The Economist wrote recently that the Paris terror attacks are “testing the capital’s reputation for joie de vivre — and its resolution not to become Tel Aviv-sur-Seine.” Paris, Brussels and the rest of Europe should be so lucky — and not just because of the great beaches, food and culture the Big Orange has to offer.

Not even when facing the most horrendous Palestinian terror wave in the early 2000s did Tel Aviv, or any other Israeli city for that matter, shut down public life or declare a state of emergency.

Europe’s leaders, often busy criticizing Israeli anti-terror techniques, would be well-advised to quickly call their colleagues in Jerusalem to learn about those very techniques. We must also learn from Israel about public resilience, which allows the Jewish state to fight terror without canceling football matches and closing shopping centers and discos — in short without giving up that “joie de vivre.”

Much has been said about the peculiar circumstances that have turned Brussels and its particularly troubled district of Molenbeek into safe havens for Jihadists. But let’s not kid ourselves. The same misguided political correctness that allowed the creation of parallel societies and the spread of radical Islam in Belgium can be found throughout Europe. [...]

In a BBC poll after the murders at Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket in January, 27 percent of Muslims polled said they had “some sympathy for the motives behind the Paris attacks.” Most other EU countries prefer not to conduct such polls.

One of the few social scientists who tries to systematically quantify the problem is Professor Ruud Koopmans, director of the research unit for migration, integration, and transnationalization at the Berlin Social Science Center, and his research makes for grim reading. [...]

According to Koopmans, Muslims also show much higher levels of “out-group hostility,” as social scientists call it, and so 57 percent reject homosexual friends, 45 percent do not trust Jews and 54 percent see “the West as an enemy out to destroy Islam.” [...]

Be it the Palestinian Authority or Egypt, we need to demand and receive an immediate end to radical religious incitement in state-controlled media, schools and mosques. Let’s begin by cutting off the satellite signals of those Middle East TV stations — and there are plenty — that spread anti-Western conspiracy theories, anti-Semitism and radical Islam into our living rooms, just as we would never allow domestic TV broadcasts to run outright racist material. Foreign hate preachers need to be speedily expelled and those schools and mosques tolerating such preaching should be closed.  Read more.

A sampling of the webpage contained such quotes as: “The Jews are cruel and malicious,” “the Jews are stingy,” “[the Jews] lie and cheat,” “Jews violate contracts and promises,” and “they [the Jews] falsified the Torah.”

“Anti-Zionism, and thereby anti-Semitism, sentiment have clearly increased over the years among Muslims with a Turkish origin,” said Daniel Neumann, director of the Hesse State’s Jewish community, in an interview with the Die Welt newspaper.

In a video, members of the Israeli team can be seen standing and singing along as Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikva,” is played in the background at the start of the game. All of a sudden, Turkish fans begin throwing objects at the Israelis, who quickly move out of the way to dodge them.

Security personnel quickly responded, and no one was hurt. Some fans also booed the Israelis, while others applauded the fans who threw the objects.

UK: Cell of Islamist women inciting against 'filthy Jews'

Via Telegraph:
A secret British cell of Islamist women is brainwashing young female Muslims in the UK and encouraging them to join Isil, an undercover investigation has revealed.

The group holds clandestine, invite-only meetings in back rooms where members show their support for the terror group and warn Allah will “destroy” those fighting it.

One of the women resides at the same address as a well known British extremist while another lives with another fanatic.

They were caught on camera, at meetings were young children were present, attacking the “filthy Jews” and telling young Muslim women that Britain is waging war against them.

Germany: Political rally in support of killing Jews

In Israel, children are being murdered.  In Berlin, this passes for 'armed resistance'.

Via reader:

On 15 November 2015 leftists groups and other organizations called for a rally in Berlin-Neukölln (Germany) demanding »Freedom for Palestine and Kurdistan!«. The call for the rally belittled and justified the current knife attacks on Jewish Israelis. The organizers wrote: »we clearly support the right of every colonized population to armed resistance! Once again the Intifada is flaring up. It is a consequence of the ongoing oppression, expulsion and ethnic cleansing of the Israeli Apartheid state.« (Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/1105915222753260/)

While the rally was about to start marching one person displayed an Israeli flag to protest against the antisemitic facets of the rally. Immediately several participants of the rally aggressively approached the protestor to attack them physically. The police prevented the attackers from harming the protestor. Nevertheless the police forces prohibited the display of the Israeli flag because »it is a provocation« as one officer said. When the protestor tried to raise the flag again the police arrested them on suspicion of »Landfriedensbruch« (english: »breach of the peace«). This accusation was not kept up and the protester was released from provisional arrest after one hour.

The attackers were not arrested

France: Anti-Semitism is a sad reality among angry youths in French slums

Via propublica:
Douhane, the secretary general of the Synergie Officiers police union, has a rare perspective. He’s one of the highest-ranking officers of Muslim descent in the French police, the son of an immigrant bus driver from Algeria. He believes the Paris attacks will cause an unprecedented backlash against extremism among French Muslims.

The reaction among Muslims has been stronger than after the attacks in January that killed 17 people at the Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish grocery, Douhane said. One victim in those attacks was a policewoman.

The new strike on Paris, ordered this time by Islamic State leaders, “was an attack on the French people, on young people, working neighborhoods, on the art of French living,” he said.

French Muslims were shocked and saddened after the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Douhane said. But some had misgivings about the worldwide “I am Charlie” campaign in solidarity with the satirical magazine, which published caricatures of the Prophet Mohamed seen as blasphemous by many Muslims. Feelings were more muted in slums where deprivation and alienation intertwine with criminality and extremism, he said. Anti-Semitism is a sad reality among angry youths in those areas, Douhane said.

They think that by attacking a grocery they are fighting for their community,” he said. “This mentality is well-ingrained. A rather sizeable minority of young Muslims manifests a brutal, violent and cretinous anti-Semitism.”

Europe: Which statement condemning attacks on civilians shows more emotion?

Elder of Ziyon on the shocking double standards of the European Union:

The EU issued a statement about yesterday's terror attacks. They even sort of implied that they were indeed terror.
The stabbing attack that killed two Israelis today in Tel Aviv, at the time of a prayer service, and the shooting attack in the West Bank that killed an Israeli, an American and a Palestinian and injured several others are both terrible and painful reminders of the volatile and violent reality on the ground.

The EU extends its condolences to the victims and their families, and wishes a speedy recovery to all those injured.

Nothing can justify terrorism. Too many innocent people have died in this current wave of violence.

Today's attacks only highlight further the need for all sides to do their utmost to prevent further violence, and to take the necessary steps to restore a political perspective for the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The statement does not take a guess as to who actually were the murderers. It doesn't name the victims. It looks like a boilerplate, written by a computer or a committee.

Just for comparison, here was the EU statement after the firebombing of the Dawabeshe house:
The cold-blooded killing of Palestinian toddler Ali Dawabsha, presumably by extremist settlers, is a tragic reminder of the dramatic situation in the region that highlights the urgent need for a political solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The EU extends its condolences to the Dawabsha family for their tragic loss and wishes a speedy recovery to the mother, father and the sibling of little Ali that were also injured in the arson attack in the village of Duma in the West Bank.

A full and prompt investigation to bring the perpetrators of this terrible crime to justice is required. The Israeli authorities should also take resolute measures to protect the local population. We call for full accountability, effective law enforcement and zero tolerance for settler violence.

Acts like this terrible attack can easily lead to a spiral of violence and bring both sides further away from a negotiated solution. Restraint and calm on all sides are needed so that the already tense situation on the ground does not aggravate further.

The EU reiterates its strong opposition to Israel's settlement policy that seriously threatens the two state solution.
There seems to be a difference in tone, no?

Germany: Second kindergarten in Berlin reported to have antisemitic staff

Via Watch Antisemitism in Europe

Everyday Antisemitism UK reports:
RIAS, an antisemitism watchdog based in Germany, has received a report that several members of staff at a children’s daycare centre in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Berlin regularly make remarks, some extremist, against Jews, Muslims, Sinti and Roma.

The group of staff are alleged to have called circumcision “culturally archaic” and said that “that bunch of immigrants” should “adjust to the standards of a German kindergarten”. The staff were reported to be unmoved by the presence of swastika graffiti within the kindergarten. Antisemitic graffiti within the surrounding area is noted to be a regular occurrence.

This is the second kindergarten in Berlin reported as a site of antisemitism by RIAS in the last month.

Ukraine: Anti-government protesters accuse Zionists of seeking to colonize the Ukraine

Via Jerusalem Post (h/t Documenting Anti-Semitism)
Anti-Semitic epithets were uttered at an anti-government rally in Kiev where speakers called for the end of what they asserted was Jewish control over the Ukrainian government, and accused Israel of seeking to colonize their country.

Ukraine found itself in a grip of the world Zionist conspiracy. We are fed up with this power with President Valtsman and [Parliament] speaker Groisman and other Jew trash,” a speaker asserted at Sunday’s rally, referring to an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that identifies President Petro Poroshenko as a hidden Jew.

“We are Ukrainians and our state is Ukraine. We have to rule,” the speaker also said.

Another speaker, who said he was wounded during the Maidan Revolution, called Poroshenko a “kike” and accused him of neglecting those who injured on Ukraine’s behalf.

Belgium: Chief Rabbi of Brussels: There is no future for Jews in Europe

Sad but not surprising.

The Jerusalem Post reports:

In the shadow of the Paris terror attacks that killed 130 people and as Belgian police sweep the country for terror suspects, the Chief Rabbi of Brussels said Monday that there is no future for Jews in Europe.

Rabbi Avraham Gigi spoke to Israeli radio station 103 FM about the atmosphere of fear in the Belgian capital that has been in a state of near lockdown for the past three days.

"There is a sense of fear in the streets, the Belgians understand that they too are targets of terror. Jews now pray in their homes [as opposed to at synagogues] and some of them are planning on emigrating," Gigi said.

"Since Shabbat the city has been paralyzed. The synagogues were closed, something which has not happened since World War Two. People are praying alone or are holding small minyanim [small prayer groups] at private homes. Schools and theaters are closed as are most large stores and public events are not permitted. We live in fear and wait for instructions from the police or the government," he said.

Gigi gave a breakdown of the Belgian Jewish population which he said numbered 50,000.

"There are 25,000 Jews in Brussels, 18,000 in Antwerp and the rest live in smaller places. There has been aliya to Israel as well as emigration to Canada and the US. People understand there is no future for Jews in Europe," he said.

He added that economic conditions are also pushing young people to leave Belgium and move to Israel or to other places.

"I think making aliya to Israel is an important thing for every Jew," Gigi said.

"It is something that Jews in every generation yearned for. But Jews should not make aliya out of fear because this will result in a poor absorption experience as a feeling that something was left behind will always remain. People should make aliya out of a love for Israel,"
the rabbi said.

EU panic:"They used to only target Jews, but now they are going after us normal people!"

There is real shock in Europe that non-Jews are being indiscriminately targeted and killed by islamists.

Comments lifted from Twitter:

Jeffrey Goldberg:
- Belgian justice minister unhappy that ISIS isn't limiting itself to Jewish targets, but targeting the "public".

Omri Ceren makes some valid points:
- Top official in EU capital: now that jihadists have moved beyond just murdering Jews, we have to switch to Plan B.
- Roughly once a century, Europeans relearn you can't solve Continental tensions by just letting Jews get slaughtered.
- Problem w/ going on TV when you're exhausted is sometimes you complain jihadists have moved past just killing Jews.
- Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out -- because it was much more fashionable to rail against Netanyahu for settlements.
- Belgium justice min discovers 1 problem w/ letting terrorists take out frustration on Jews: you run out of Jews.
- Belgium officials distraught that Muslim terrorists have moved beyond targeting Jews.

Via Elder of Ziyon:

From The Guardian:

Europe’s de facto capital faces an unprecedented security lockdown this week after Belgian authorities imposed a slew of safety-first measures to prevent a “serious and imminent” terrorist attack.

Schools, universities and kindergartens will be shut on Monday and the metro, shuttered all weekend, will remain closed, as counter-terrorist forces intensify their search for a network of Islamist militants involved in the Paris attacks.

On Sunday soldiers patrolled the streets with armoured vehicles outside the main stations and in public spaces.

...Geens, the justice minister, said that the Paris attacks had shown that the profile of potential targets had changed.

“It’s no longer synagogues or the Jewish museums or police stations, it’s mass gatherings and public places.”
Now that it isn't only Jews being targeted, we have to get serious about security!

France: Bataclan owner denies venue was targeted because he is Jewish

Via JTA:
Joel Laloux, the former owner of the Bataclan concert hall who now lives in Israel, denied the venue was targeted because he is Jewish.

Laloux, who sold the Paris venue where 89 people were killed on Friday night before moving to the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, told the news agency AFP that neither his religion, nor the fact that the venue had played host to pro-Israel events, was a factor in the killings.

Laloux said such speculation, which has spread widely online in the wake of the attack, is “stupid and pointless.” The hall was targeted simply because the attackers knew it would be full, he said.

Spain: News anchor reports on 'poweful Jewish lobby'

Via Observatorio Antisemitismo (translation by ariminak):

On November 9, on Antena 3's news programmes 'Noticias 2', the news anchor, Alvaro Zancajo, said before introducing a video:" The influence of the Jew lobby in the world and specially on the United States is an evidence, but to see that reality, watch it, is really different. The mise-en-scene of their power is produced once a year when they celebrate The International Conference of their more powerful stream of Judaism."

To talk about the world power of Jewish people and their influence emphasizes stigmas and stereotypes without any foundation that have chased the Jewish community and it has served to create hate and rejection towards us

Immediately upon receipt the complaints of the FCJE ( Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain) Antena 3 sent a letter asking for apologies and issued a rectification.

UK: Scottish universities ignore harassment of Jewish students

Via Herald (h/t CFCA):
JEWISH students at universities are "denying or hiding" their identity because of discrimination, according to new claims.

The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (Scojec) said it had evidence university staff had criticised student work on Israel because they did not agree with the point of view being expressed.

The council, which is the representative body for Jewish communities across Scotland, also said Jewish students had been "hounded" for not attending medical lectures on the Jewish Sabbath, which begins at nightfall on Friday evening.

One student told Scojec: "I was told by my university that either I sit exams on Shabbat or I fail."

In another case, a student said she no longer went to the business school or library and was worried about attending classes "due to fear of being harassed or attacked".
Scojec also accused universities of not taking action when concerns had been raised adding: "It is troubling that when the Jewish Student Chaplaincy Scotland has intervened with the support of Scojec to assist Jewish students who find themselves subject to abuse, our concerns have been dismissed by senior university staff who appear not to recognise that there have been failures."

Switzerland: Famous imam Hani Ramadan hints Mossad behind Paris terrorist attacks

Conspiracy Watch reports that Hani Ramadan, who heads the Islamic Centre of Geneva, has indicated that the Paris terror attacks perpetrated by Muslims had nothing to do with Islam and hinted that the Mossad might be behind the butchery.  "Let's start monitoring the Mossad," he said on November 18.

Wikipedia: Hani Ramadan:

"Hani Ramadan has recently attracted the attention of the press and Swiss authorities by virtue of his radical statements such as that expressed at the 2014 meeting of the Union of Islamic Organizations in France, when he stated: "All the evil in the world originates from the Jews and the Zionist barbarism."

Hani Ramadan is the brother of Tariq Ramadan, the darling of the Belgian media, academia and political establishment.  He has never distanced himself from his brother's views.  He is yet again invited to Brussels to the BOZAR and was a keynote speaker at the prestigious Belgian Royal Academy on freedom of speech...

Alan Johnson writes in the Telegraph: "according to the US essayist Paul Berman “Ramadan reveres [the Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide], Sheikh al Qaradawi above all other present-day Islamic scholars, and in one book after another he has left no room for doubt about his fealty. If anyone in the world offers a model of modern enlightened Islam, Ramadan plainly judges Qaradawi to be that person.” That’s the same Qaradawi who, as Peter Tatchell points out, “condones suicide bombing, the killing of civilians, female genital mutilation, forced veiling, wife-beating and the killing of Muslims who turn away from their faith. He also blames rape victims who dress immodestly and supports the execution of LGBT people.”

Hassan al Banna, who in 1928 founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, is their grand-father.

Belgium: Paris terror suspect received text message "The Jew is not here" while in police custody in Brussels

RT reports:
The third suspect arrested in Belgium following the Paris terror attacks was 39-year-old Abraimi Lazez, a Belgian citizen of Moroccan descent who was living in Brussels.

Lazez was detained in the Laeken district of the Belgian capital on Thursday. Upon stopping his vehicle, police found a handgun and traces of blood in his car; the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF reported.

Police had also raided his apartment in the Molenbeek district of Brussels shortly before he was arrested. They found several weapons. Lazez will appear before a court on Wednesday, according to local media reports.

La Dernière Heure has more.  While being interrogated by the police Abraimi Lazez received a text message which read: "The Jew is not here".  The suspect didn't give any explanation as to the nature or origin of the message.

France: Gov't, media, treat ISIS attacks on Jews as 'backlash' to Paris attacks

Last week, ISIS terrorists killed more than 130 people in multiple, coordinated attacks in Paris.

A few days later, there were two separate attacks in Marseille.

In one, a Muslim woman was attacked with a box-cutter.

In another, a Jewish man was stabbed by ISIS-supporters.

While the first one can be seen as a 'backlash' or 'response' the Paris attacks, The second incident is obviously a continuation of the same terror wave, except this time it was directed specifically at Jews.

But this isn't how the French see it.

Both were grouped together and classified by the government and the media as "racist attacks".

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve expressed outrage at "these cowardly anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic attacks".

And here's a few examples of how it was reported in French and British papers:

TF1: 2 racist attacks after the [Paris] attacks

Le Parisien:  Racist attacks in Marseille

RFI: Anti-Semitic, Islamophobic attacks in Marseille after IS Paris attacks

Sunday Express: Muslim woman slashed with box-cutter as hate crimes spiral after Paris attacks (attack on Jew is mentioned in subtitle)

Mirror: Paris attacks backlash as Muslim woman wounded with box cutter after Jewish teacher stabbed

People think Jews are leaving France because they are being targeted by Muslim terrorists.  But that's only part of the story.  The major part of the story is that when terrorists attack  Jews, nobody thinks it's a terror attack.  It's just an 'antisemitic' or 'racist' crime, and will be treated as such.

Nobody will go to war when Jews get attacked.  Not over a trifle like a hate crime.

And that's why French Jews are leaving France.

In October I went for a drink with a non-Jewish woman I met through the dating app, Tinder. It was a good-humoured experience until right at the end of the evening when it came up in conversation that my background is Israeli-Jewish (my mother is from Israel but I was born and raised in Britain). At that point the woman, a 29-year-old social worker and Green Party member, launched a furious personal attack on me, yelling, pointing her finger and making racist comments, including accusing me of personally of being a child killer, saying: “Israel has been grabbing land, killing innocent people, including children – and you probably did that too.” Other comments included claims about “you and your people” being responsible for various wrongdoings and “I wish I’d know this earlier”, suggesting that she racially profiles men that she dates.

Former President, Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Ahtisaari says that Europe must pay attention to the reasons of radicalisation more than it does. Germany withdraws Eurovision contender after uproar on anti-Semitic, homophobic lyrics

It's getting more and more difficult, not to say impossible, to understand what's going on in the minds of Europeans!

The Jerusalem Post reports:

Germany withdrew its contender for next year's Eurovision song contest on Saturday following a backlash from critics who accuse the R&B artist of using anti-Semitic and homophobic slurs in his songs.

Xavier Naidoo, a singer of Indian and African heritage whose albums have sold millions, was selected as Germany's candidate by public broadcaster ARD on Thursday, but the uproar in newspapers and social media prompted a swift change of heart.

"Xavier Naidoo is a wonderful singer who isn't racist or homophobic in my view," ARD executive Thomas Schreiber said in a statement. "It was clear that he is someone who polarizes but the ferocity of the reactions surprised us. We misjudged."

Top-selling newspaper Bild questioned the choice of Naidoo on its front page on Friday. Anetta Kahane, founder of well-known anti-racism group the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, described his selection as "problematic". [...]
In another song released after the 2008 financial crisis, Naidoo refers to the German-Jewish Rothschild banking family as "Baron Deadschild" and uses the word "schmock", a derogatory term in Yiddish.

UK: London mayor hopeful Sadiq Khan has met 'countless people' who think 9/11 was a Mossad plot

The Jewish Chronicle reports:
Labour’s London mayor candidate Sadiq Khan has described his experience of meeting extremists who claim the September 11 terror attacks were a “Mossad conspiracy”.

Mr Khan said he had come across people who believed Jewish workers in New York had been “tipped off” to stay away from the Twin Towers before the planes hit the buildings.

Speaking at a parliamentary lunch on Thursday, the former Communities Minister said he had “lost count” of the instances when he had to challenge “hideous views”.

He also spoke more broadly about Islamic extremism and the steps he would take to tackle it if elected to City Hall next May.

Mr Khan said: “Extremism isn't a theoretical risk. Most British Muslims have come across someone with extremist views at some point - and so have I. It's affected my personal life, my friendships, and my career. “People I knew as a boy have gone on to hold extremist views, and even to act on them in terrible ways.

When I was a lawyer, as well as representing people who were badly treated by the police or their employers, I sometimes had the unpleasant job of representing people with extremist views.

“It was horrible - but it went with the job. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to challenge the hideous views of seemingly intelligent and articulate people.

“People who look and sound like normal Londoners, until they say that 9/11 was a Mossad conspiracy. That the Jewish workers in the twin towers were tipped off and escaped.
