The Jerusalem Post reports:
Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom blasted the European Union on Friday, indicating that the bloc was being counterproductive in the global fight against terrorism.
Speaking at a conference on regional dialogue in Rome also attended by chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat, Shalom stressed that it was not enough to make declaration from Europe against terrorism.
"Erekat and the Palestinian leadership need to make a statement from Ramallah against terrorism," he said in referenced to the de facto Palestinian Authority capital.
"Unfortunately we are now experiencing another round of escalation from the Palestinians. It is regrettable that Europe, which with one hand is fighting against terrorism, is with the other hand providing funds to the Palestinians that are being used for salaries and bonuses for Palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails," he charged, adding that "This is really absurd."
