Pascal Boniface is renowned political commentator in France. He never misses a chance of criticising Israel. He is continuously invited by the media who just love him but keeps complaining that he is not because he dares to criticise Israel. Among others he wrote a book titled La France malade du conflit israelo-palestinien (The Israel-Palestine conflict makes France sick). The appreciation is such that Pascal Boniface was awarded the National Order of the Legion of Honour by President François Hollande in 2013.
When it was reported that IDF were recruiting soldiers with autism, he seized the opportunity to criticise Israel yet again. He posted Twitter message derogatory both to autists and to those put their skills to good use by insinuating that there are numerous autists in the Israeli government.
This type of debate just gives an idea of the level of the intellectual debate in France and why so many French Jews are leaving the country.
Times of Israel reported on the IDF initiative: Soldiers with autism give army rare view into intel, and disorder .The IDF’s Unit 9900, faced with the Sisyphean task of deciphering satellite images, has begun employing volunteer soldiers on the autism spectrum who have proven adept at decoding the pictures.
