France: Robert Ménard criticises Hollande for inviting "antisemite Jesse Jackson" to anti-slavery ceremony

Le Figaro reports that Robert Ménard expressed outrage at President François Hollande having invited "the antisemite Jesse Jackson" to the ceremony in Paris to mark the anniversary of the abolition of slavery.

Mr Ménard is Catholic and has always shown his opposition to antisemitism and antisemites.  He is currently mayor of the town of Béziers in the south of France and was elected with the support of Marine Le Pen's National Front which has nothing to do with her father Jean-Marie Le Pen.   By the way, Jackson was invited by President Hollanded and ended up having dinner with no other than Jean-Marie Le Pen...

Le Figaro writes about Jackson's controversial views.  For instance,  in an interview with the New York Post in October 2008, he hoped that the election Obama would put an end to the influence of " Zionists who have controlled American policy for generations ". In August 2006, on a visit to Lebanon following bombardments by the Israeli airforce, Jackson met with Dieudonné and Thierry Meyssan, a truther

"In 2002, he published a book on the September 11 terrorist attacks—9/11: The Big Lie—in which Meyssan argues that such attacks were organized by a faction of the US military industrial complex in order to impose a military regime. The book was translated into 28 languages.
His following book was Le Pentagate, a book arguing that the attack against the Pentagon was not carried out by a commercial airliner but a missile. The central thesis of the book is that a Boeing 757 did not hit The Pentagon. This was heavily criticised by other prominent 9/11 Truth Movement members such as Jim Hoffman."

He is the founder of a conspirationist blog, réseau Voltaire and one of its pet subjects is Zionism.
