Media people love to explain to me that "Israel is not Jews" and that Israel-hatred is not antisemitism.
Maybe somebody can explain this to me, then.
Rabbi Menachem Margolin, director of the Brussels-based European Jewish Association, turned to European governments, asking them to make it easier for Jews to get gun permits, in order to protect themselves.
An article about this on Belgian news-site HLN, attracted many antisemitic comments.
There were those who claimed that Jews don't face any greater threat than any other Belgian. Which, I suppose, is why Jewish schools in Belgium look like armed fortresses and non-Jewish schools don't.
Then there were the real antisemitic comments:
- If we give Jews guns, they'll kill us, just like they kill the Palestinians.
- We see in Israel and Palestine what happens when you give them [ie, extremists] guns.
- What's next? We'll arm the Palestinians in Belgium?
- We live in Belgium, not in America or Israel, where you can shoot whomever you want.
- In Israel they kill women and children
- Are we going to be like Israel where many people walk around with machine-guns?
- You don't feel safe? Israel gave you a solution. Go away and leave us alone.
