The local news website Thüringen24 reported that 20 tombstones at the Jewish cemetery in Gotha were daubed with Nazi slogans on June 7. Amongst others Nazi swastikas and SS signs were painted onto the tombstones with black paint.
The Jewish cemetery in Gotha has been vandalized several times in the past. In 2004 a total of 14 tombstones were kicked over and 2 tombstones were damaged.

The two man were convicted in 2010. On the contrary to other cemeteries in Gotha the Jewish cemetery has to remain locked and can only be visited after making an appointment with the municipality.
