The Simon Wiesenthal Center has called upon the mayor of the French city of Nantes, Johanna Roland, to prevent a pro-Nazi gathering by the Ukraine Azoz Regiment (formerly known as the Azov Battalion) scheduled for January 16.
The group, formerly known as the Azov Battalion, is planning to hold a recruitment meeting at an unknown location in the western French city, according to Shimon Samuels, the Simon Wiesenthal’s Center’s director for international relations.
The meeting is reportedly organized by unidentified French extreme-right activists. Samuels said the Azov group is “of neo-Nazi character.”
