Two pupils of North African descent harrassed and verbally abused an eight-year-old Jewish girl at a state primary school in Mions (Rhône).
According to the father, the child had never revealed that she is Jewish - but the boys found out after plying her with questions about her origin. She was first harassed when she left the canteen. Afterwards in the playground they tried to tried to draw in the other pupils by shouting "A ... is Jewish. A... is Jewish" and tried to hit her. She was not harmed because pupils protected her.
When she reported the incident to her teacher, one of the boys explained that "Jews and Arabs are at war", stating that he heard these words at home.
Such incidents are not uncommon in schools in Europe.
